:'-(

Last night, Kamarie, who is almost 2.5,
gets out of bed around midnight and
makes me take her to the toilet so she can poop.
No, she has never worn panties a day in her life.
No, I have not tried to potty train her yet.
Yes, she has done #1 and #2 in the toilet before.
But, last night was just such an oddity.
she has never demanded to go sit on the toilet to do #2 before.
Panties were going to start a couple of days ago,
until we both got so sick.
I am so not ready to be diaperless yet.

Pneumonia!!

Kamarie has pneumonia!
She started coughing the same day I did. Last Wednesday.
We have coughed the same each day since then.
We have both felt yucky the same, taken medicine the same, been lethargic the same.
It has been very comforting to Kams for me to say,"you're sick, I'm sick, we're both sick, together!"
And she'll say, "yeeaahh..." as she wimpers closer in my arms.

Until last night, then she started coughing different. It sounded like a useless cough. Like it was very annoying, but not being very productive at all. she would cough and cough and cough, then repeat.
Cough meds didn't seem to help. Then during the night and this morning, more useless coughing.
Supposedly, someone at the Int. School has Whooping Cough so I was worried about her having that.
(Until I gooogled it and listened to what a "whoop" cough sounds like, then I knew it wasn't. Cause a "whoop" sounding cough sounds like a laryngospasm!!!! not a "whoop").
I took her to the pediatrician, and besides the ear infection, she has a popping sound in her lungs! the pediatrician handed me the stethescope so I could hear the "pop." I couldn't believe it! Pneumonia.

I asked him to listen to my lungs to see if I had the same thing, so he did.
I also have an ear infection, but I have bronchitis.
He wrote me out a Rx also. Cool. Saved me the trouble of getting an appt.

Kams is way more miserable than I am today.
I was super yucky sick Sun and Mon. but had to chase Hubby around town with errands today.

The incubation period for bronchitis could be 4 days for certain ones, 2 to 4 weeks for others.
So, YES, Hubby! We are blaming YOU!
You are the only one we have both slept with this past month.

BTW, hubby, next time you are sick like that, you are NOT NOT NOT sleeping in our room!

They make it seem so IMPORTANT!

Stake Assistant Women's Sports Director.

They sent a high councilor to our ward to announce just me.

They turned the time over to him and everything.

To announce: just me.

Every ward in the stake was announcing it as well.

It felt really weird, like it was supposed to be all important or something.

Honestly, how many of  you out there even remember the Stake sports directors?
Especially in a stake that doesn't seem to have a lot of interest in this area.

Anywho, assist I shall do. The girl I assist is a sports nut, so this should be easy. Knock on wood!

Got a new calling today.

BUT, I can't tell you yet.
Here's a clue: I had to meet with a member of the Stake Presidency!
But in the meantime, here is the exciting news I found out about while I was visiting with Bro. Wilstead.

http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/61916/New-mission-presidents.html

The Wilstead's are the 7th couple down.

Until I got kicked out of their ward 4-5 months ago, I was Denise's visiting teacher for a few years!

They aren't allowed to announce where they will be going yet, but they will have to learn a foreign language.
They only get 4 days in the MTC for training. YIKES!

They have a huge piece of property out here by me, and a horse corral out back and she has horses and dogs. They put their house up for sale, (houses aren't selling super well right now around here) and got a cash offer in 7 days. The buyers are letting them rent it back till they leave in 4 months. Unbelievable!

Super, super neat people! She was always easy to talk to.

The church announced it 3 weeks ago, but my new ward didn't! But, I was glad to hear it from him. It made the whole ordeal more real to hear his prospective. They will be gone 3 years.

Last time someone from my stake got called to be a mission pres, was about 5 years ago. It was our Stake Pres. and he had to move with 2-3 sons to a S. American country.

I told Bro. Wilstead that he needed to drink more Diet Cokes to prevent scary callings like this one!

My bad!

I fed my boys beans for dinner just in time for them to be on an enclosed bus with the swim team for several hours today.

My sincerest apologies to the swim team and their chaperones.

Hehe...

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

I just learned to cook dried beans!

Either it's good news
that I love my husband so much to be sympathetic to his cause
that I have never learned to cook them before now,
or it's bad news
that I no longer care that he HATES them.

Anyhow, beans have been a staple in my life till I got married.
I like them best with ketchup.
There's really nothing you can do to ruin them.

Hubby spent days,
maybe even weeks,
sitting at the kitchen table unable to leave
till he ate those beans on his plate.

So, I have some dry beans sitting in the cupboard that I have had for a long, long, long time from being on WIC. Probably from when Kort was a baby.

Looking for something to eat that is high in fiber and protein, I decided to experiment with some free beans.

Apparently beans cook slower if you add salt or tomatoes at the beginning.

So, I soaked the beans overnight. rinsed them and put them back in a big pot with 14-16 cups of water.
I used a bag of pinto beans
and a bag of small red beans.
I simmered them till they became tender, since they were so old it took longer, about 4 hours.
I put in 2 bay leaves. I have no idea why, I have just heard that you put them in. I would have put them in at the beginning if I had remembered to.
I added about 2- 3 teaspoons of salt, 1 teas. of pepper.
I added 1 teas of baking soda, and it about foamed over the top of my pot. I would have added 3 teas of soda, but I ran out. (How do you run out of baking soda?! It is almost as cheap as salt!) Anyway, I think you add soda so you won't have so much gas build up in your intestines. (Where's the fun in that?)
I sauteed 2 yellow onions in about 2 Tbls of butter and added them to the pot.
I added a diced green pepper. I added one, cause that's all I had. I would have used 3 if I had them.
I added a can of diced tomatoes. Only one, cause that's all I had.
I added a can of tomato paste to make up for the diced tomatoes I thought I had, but didn't.
Then, I found some cans of Italian stewed tomatoes. I didn't want to add them, cause I wasn't looking for the Italian flavor today, but I was desperate for canned tomatoes.
Then I used my immersion blender and pureed gently the Italian stewed tomatoes while they were in the can. Gently- so it would be a little chunky. 4 cans of those. I was craving tomatoes.
I added a little parsley, like 2 Tbls
and a teas. of garlic powder.
I dumped in about 2 Tbls of olive oil cause I heard that was good in beans.
oh, yeah, and about 1/4 cup of shortening because my mom said my grandma always added that for flavor.

It simmered the whole time I was adding stuff, so it was about 6 hours total for the beans.

I can't figure out if there's something wrong with the beans or with me, I am on my 5th bowl!
The best is when I get to wash it down with a Diet Mountain Dew.

Yum

Hacker

We have a hacker at our house and it's not Kyson.

It is Hubby. He caught the cough that is going around. He caught it so well it turned into Bronchitis!
The cough started off horrible, and it is still horrible.
It makes him throw up, it's so horrible.
Now he can barely talk. He thinks he might have ripped a vocal chord, cause it sounds like it, and because he spits up blood. yuck.

He's been out of work for 5 weeks, and he got called to come to work. Finally, he gets work, and he can't go, cause he has to go to the dr., and he feels yucky.

C'est la vie.

C'est La Vie

This time Hubby is the star of my blog.
Two years ago, he realized that he needs an Associates Degree to apply to certain jobs that he wanted to try for, which included substitute teacher (or so they told him).
He went to school for that semester (nothing else to do), and finished up the requirements (like 3 credits) he hadn't finished 22 years ago. However, the rules had changed and now he had to take 10 credits to finish up. So he finished those credits for the degree.
Then, work picked up for him and he didn't need the Degree any more, so he didn't apply for it.
Now, he is out of work again. With promises of work coming up (that didn't pan out),  he didn't register for classes this semester. So, he went to the college to square up his Degree.
The local college has changed the rules again. He no longer qualifies for the Degree. Now he is short 7 credits to get it. If he had applied for it when he earned it, he would have it.
I told him I think God is trying to tell him to stay in school and GET IT FINISHED, and to get the heck out of the concrete (beat the crap out of your body till you can no longer move if you are ever able to retire) business.

They took FIRST!

This picture was in the paper on Saturday, Jan 21. This is a picture of Kyson's relay team after they just found out they tied for 1st place in the 200 Medley relay in the Region Championships with a team that they thought was out of their reach.
They are a happy bunch of boys, now!

Pine View boys of the 200-yard medley relay celebrate after finishing during the first day of a Region 9 swim meet at Sand Hollow Aquatic Center on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012.ST. GEORGE - A pair of Region 9 swimming records were set Friday at Sand Hollow Aquatic Center as aquanauts from eight schools clashed and splashed, seeking region titles in both the boys and girls divisions.

Surprisingly, at the end of eight events, the Snow Canyon girls have a slender lead in the scoring over Desert Hills, with Cedar third and Canyon View fourth. In the boys race for the big trophy, Desert Hills has a commanding lead over Cedar with Canyon View, Pine View and Dixie all within striking distance of second-place.

Desert Hills sophomore Amelia Draney smashed her own Region 9 record in the 200-yard freestyle for the second time in two weeks. She scorched the distance in 1:55.85, almost a half-second quicker than she clocked a week ago in a meet against Judge.

"I just wanted to go fast enough to qualify for regionals," she said, "And that did it."

Draney was chased home in the 200 by Hurricane's Kaylee LeBaron, who dropped 6.5 seconds off her previous best. Sydney Zwick of Snow Canyon was third ahead of Cedar's Jamie Slack and Snow Canyon's Haley Barnett, all of whom went faster than their seed times.

"Amelia's closing in on the state 3A record of 1:53.92," said her coach Dani Caldwell, "And she'll get it sooner than later."

Desert Hills senior Courtney Freed set the other record in the 200 individual medley. She zipped through the four-stroke race in 2:14.24 to obliterate a record that had been on the books for 20 years.

Freed dropped an amazing 7.2 seconds off her previous best with a time that will have college coaches taking notice. Leah Heger of Snow Canyon was second, follow by Desert Hills' Tessa Trimble, Alisa Wallace of Cedar and Alex Meyer of Pine View.

The two 200-yard medley relays got the meet off to a rip-snorting start.

In the girls medley relay the Snow Canyon team of Zwick, McKenzie Barber, Heger and McKensy Madsen upset the Desert Hills team of Draney, Freed, Trimble and Madison Wawryzniak.

Only two-tenths of a second separated the two teams at the finish, Warriorette Madsen touching out Thunderette Wawryzniak by a finger nail in a school record time of 1:56.01. Cedar was third with Hurricane fourth.

The boys medley relay finish was even closer. In fact it was a tie between the Pine View team of Zack Paddock, Mitchell Hutchings, Kyson Sullivan and Kyle Buck and the Desert Hills foursome. The Thunder quartet was composed of John McPhie, Tim Senholtz, Spencer Bleazard and Corry Clark. Final time for both teams was 1:47.71, with Dixie a close-up third.

The Cedar City area boys dominated the 50 free. The Brown boys, Riley and Mitchell (no relation) finished one-two in the sprint, Riley of Canyon View winning in 22.75, with Mitchell of Cedar second, ahead of Eric Armijo of Canyon View and Corry Clark of Desert Hills.

Other noteworthy performances included Pine View's Shayne Beckstrand's 25.97 win in the girls 50 free over Zoe Smith of Desert Hills and the Snow Canyon pair of McKensy Madsen and Mica Mangum; Mitchell Hutchings of Pine View winning the 200 free in 1:50.15 over Richard Edwards of Canyon View and Desert Hills' Josh McPhie; and Snow Canyon's Connor Newman's 2:08.95 triumph over a charging Ashby Johnson of Dixie and John McPhie of Desert Hills.

Swim Region Day 2 newspaper article

I put this in here mostly for Kyson's personal records or personal history.

ST. GEORGE - The 500-yard freestyle at a high school swim meet is roughly equivalent to the seventh inning stretch in baseball - only longer.

It's a time to chat with friends or go to the vending machine, but not when Amerlia Draney or Mitchell Hutchings and Michael Pantelakis are swimming the 500.

Draney, who broke the Region 9 200 free record Friday at Sand Hollow Aquatic Center, was still in a record-breaking mood Saturday during the Region Championships. She smashed her own week-old mark by almost two seconds zipping the 500 yard in 5:12.83 and lapping her opposition. That time ranks her at the top of the 3A state standings. Hailey Pabst of 4A Mountain Crest is the only Utah high school girl swimmer to have gone faster. The 5A girls aren't even close.

Amelia was drying off after warming down when Mitchell Hutchings and Michael Pantelakis, representing Pine View and Dixie respectively, hit the water. Pantelakis led by a hair after the first 50, but Hutchings inched ahead, with a first 100 in 54.95. Michael posted a 55.39. After Hutchings began to widen and finished in an eyebrow-raising 4:56.62, over seven seconds faster than he had ever swum the distance before. Pantelakis also turned in a lifetime best effort of 5:02.77 and the pair is perched atop the state's 3A top 50 rankings going into next month's State Championships.

"I feel great, but tired," Mitchell said after the race. "I was getting him on the turns," he added, "Coach Dani has been working a lot with us on turns and it paid off."

Following Hutchings and Pantelakis home were Josh McPhie of Desert Hills and Hurricane's Payton Carter, who dropped an awesome 17.62 seconds off his previous best.

Draney, who rocketed her first 100 in 58.85 reflected, "Maybe I went out a little too fast, but I wanted to set a quick tempo early and try to hold it."

Chasing her home in the 500 was Hurricane's Kaylee LeBaron, who dropped an eye-popping 14.5 seconds off her previous best. Snow Canyon's Haley Barnett was third with another big time drop and Josie Hendrix of Cedar was fourth.

Other spectacular performances belonged to Leah Heger of Snow Canyon and Tim Senholtz of Desert Hills in the 100 butterfly; Desert Hills' Courtney Freed and Senholtz in the 100 breast stroke; Snow Canyon's girls 4x50 freestyle relay team and Desert Hills' boys 4x100 relay.

Heger was thrilled when she looked up at the scoreboard and saw her time in the 100 fly. It read 1:00.92, almost two seconds faster than she'd ever swum that event before. It broke Lacey Ence's 10-year-old school record, prompting Leah to say "I've been trying to break that record for three years."

Defending state champion Tessa Trimble of Desert Hills was second and Cedar's Alisa Wallace, who dropped about two seconds, was third.

Senholtz also set a Desert Hills school record with his 54.25 victory in the fly, shaving over a second off his seed time and beating the Canyon View trio of Richard Edwards, Aidan O'Connell and Skyler King. Both Tim's and Leah's times rank number one in the state for 3A swimmers.

Freed, who Friday demolished Cedar City's Anzie Porter's 20-year-old Region 9 record, came back Saturday with her game face on to upset McKenzie Barber in the 100 breast in the school record time of 1:08.83, nearly three seconds faster than her previous best. Barber, who was throwing up early in the day was nevertheless right at her seed time and finished ahead of Pine View's Alex Meyer, who shaved almost six seconds off her previous best.

Senholtz trumped Freed's effort with a 1:02.96 school record breaststroke victory of his own to vault into the top slot in the 3A top 50. He beat teammate Ben Powell with Snow Canyon's Parker Richey third ahead of the Dixie pair of Pantelakis and Ashby Johnson, all of whom dropped time.

Snow Canyon's girls 4x50 free relay set another school record, besting their Thunder rivals by 1.6 seconds. The foursome was composed of Barber, Heger, Sydney Zwick and McKensy Madsen. They now rank second in the state 3A standings behind Juan Diego.

The Thunder boys 4x100 free relay team of John McPhie, Makai Smith, Clark Corry and Senholtz grabbed the gold medal and propelled itself to a top state ranking with its 3:25.92 victory over Canyon View.

Other Region 9 champions crowned Saturday were Barber in the girls 100 fee; Canyon View's Riley Brown, who edged Cedar's Mitchell Brown in the boys 100 free; Cedar's Jamie Slack in the 100 back, Snow Canyon's Connor Newman in the 100 back; Canyon View's boys 4x50 relay team of Eric Armijo, Skyler King, Richard Edwards and Riley Brown; and the Desert Hills girls 4x100 free relay team of Zoe Smith, Emily Jesgarz, Tessa Trimble and Freed.

Desert Hills won both the boys and girls team trophies, with Snow Canyon second in the girls division and the Canyon View boys garnering second.

Kashton, my HERO! sort of

He made me Grandma Horsefeathers MOLASSES CANDY!!!!!

It took him an hour of stirring time,
but the agreement was that if he spent 15 minutes stirring,
then I would take off one week of his grounding.

Funny thing:
he did the EXACT same thing as another of my sons
that got grounded for a week,
then expected to go to a party that same night. haha
then,
he said the EXACT same thing as my other son,
and got grounded for another 3 days. haha
then,
at church I told him that if he told me one more time that he wasn't grounded,
then,
he would be grounded for one week for every time he told me so.
Then,
he passed me a note during church
where he told me so
at least 30 times. haha hahaha
hahaha
so, he got to stir my molasses candy for an hour with very little complaining.
LOL
It's chillin in the fridge,
but soon,
I will have
clean microwaves,
clean windows,
clean baseboards.....
because he has a party next weekend, also.
 :)   :)   :)   !

It was the first time we've made it since my mom's birthday a year and a half ago!
That time Uncle Steve stirred it, and he wasn't even in a time out!.lol

Kashton's Funnies! First Offense?

Kashton got grounded!
He was trying to justify why he shouldn't be grounded
and trying his best
(not his best, he just told me)
to get ungrounded so that he could go to the party that night.
He sat himself in a timeout for 20 minutes hoping that
I would accept that instead of the grounding.
"How about if I sit in a timeout and think about what I've done for 20 minutes?"
Then he sat in a timeout and verbally harassed me for 20 minutes.  LOL

I was feeling bad about him getting grounded for so long without a better warning.
I was thinking out loud
-hypothetically speaking-
wondering if I should let him off since it was his "First Offense."
Kashton,
surprised at my implication,
chimed in immediately,
"FIRST OFFENSE?! You mean there's gonna be another?"
LOL
LOL

CTR? What is that?

Sorry, this is just Ventsville lately.

I don't get it. I really don't. My sheltered upbringing was just too sheltered for some things of this world.

Last night a 15-yr-old girl hosted a boy/girl party where they were watching a movie with kids 15-18. Our kids know they have to ask us for permission to watch movies. One of our kids asked to watch "GrownUps". Hubby has seen parts of this movie and said it was filled with RAUNCH. He said "no" to the movie, especially in mixed company.

I am wondering: WHERE are the parents of this 15-yr-old girl? WHY would it be okay with them that she even watches it, let alone show it for a mixed-group party? WHY is she allowed to date her boyfriend before she is 16? and were her parents even around while this is all going on?

My son told us they would watch RIO instead. Yeah, right! This whole group of kids are GOOD KIDS as far as I know. They all knew that we had forbidden our son to watch it, they all helped in the lie by showing it anyway and by telling us they were watching something else.

I hate raunch. It has always offended me. I am just now learning that good kids tolerate it. They even WELCOME it. I don't get it. I just don't get it.

One time in high school, my basketball coach gave in to peer pressure to a raunchy girl on the team and rented an R rated movie for the TEAM (ages 14-18) to watch at the hotel at the State playoffs.
I sat by myself in my hotel room wondering what the heck. I didn't get it then, I still dont get it.

This party was primarily people on the swim team. I have already learned to be skeptical of anything "swim team". They sit on each others laps at the meets to stay warm in nothing but their swimsuits; they have parties so that they can play "kissing tag;" they have video parties and watch something raunchy. Most of them are "the good kids".

These good kids should be sticking up for what's going to help them get to the temple. (Wait a minute, they did that earlier in the day). And helping each other stay clean-minded while they are still so young.

Wow, I am really naive aren't I?
Now, I understand why my other son was not invited to the party.
He can't stand raunch either, which makes him "un-cool."  ...
 ..."un-cool" to the "good" kids!

Molasses Candy

Grandma Woodbury’s Molasses Candy

2 c sugar
2 c cream
4 T. butter
12 oz (1 1/2 c) sorghum or molasses

Cook, stirring constantly, until brittle, then add almonds and 2 rounded tsp. soda. Stir briskly only until the soda is mixed in and pour into buttered pan.

Notes: This is the candy I remember Grandma almost always had around. Not just at Christmas-time, too. I preferred it to be a little on the softer side -- you might be in danger or removing a filling, otherwise. =)

I have hand-written notes on my recipe card that say 1 cup molasses, cook until brittle or soft, and use 1 rounded tsp of soda. I'm not sure who made the adjustments, but I thought I'd be thorough and offer all options. =)

Uncle Clair says that sorghum makes a better candy. He said the molasses works but makes it more crispy than the sorghum.

I am feeling like I want to make some of this soon. I jsut need someone willing to stand there and stir for a half an hour.

Kauri's funnies Finally another one

Kinzie started reading her a book called Throwing Tantrums, and Kauri ran away to my bathroom and slammed the door shut behind her so she wouldn't have to listen to it. lol

UnBestBuylievable

Did any of you hear about the great Best Buy dabacle?

Here is just OUR version: We researched the laptops. We spent hours doing it. We finally settled on one and placed our Cyber Monday order.

The next day we were sent an email informing us that it was out of stock. They didn't know when they would get any, and if we wanted to cancel our order, here's how to do it. Okay, we would just wait and see. We didn't need the laptop anymore anyway.

The next week, the email said that it was still out of stock and it would ship as soon as it became available unless we cancelled our order. Fine.

The next week, the email said about the same thing.

The next week, a few days before Christmas, the email informed us that none of this back ordered item would be coming in and our order had been cancelled!

What the heck? No "here's an item of comparable value and comparable savings instead"?

I was mad. Really mad. How could a national chain of such reputation get away with this?!

I found on the website how to email the company, and I let them have it.

I told them: We missed out on 3+ weeks of good deals at other stores, because we were told that this was coming in eventually. Now it was 3 days before Christmas and we had no chance to replace this deal.

I told them I couldn't believe they didn't offer similar value in-store for us.

I told them I was infuriated at their lack of customer service.

I told them I would never be able to trust BestBuy dot com again.

We went to Best Buy locally to see if there was any sort of deals left or anything available in general. I absolutely expected to hear from them with them offering us a similar deal.

I heard on the news that there was quite a backlash for BB doing this to so many people. They mentioned that BB would be offering an instore credit of $30 to all its affected customers.

When I got my email with the credit in it, I couldn't believe what I read.
The laptop was on sale for $329. They gave us an instore credit of

$310!!!!

You read that right. I wondered if I read that right. I wondered all the way to the store till I had the gift card in my hand!

No need to spend non-tax deductable money on a tax deductable item.

We went to Costco and got a laptop there!  Insert smiley face here!

In case you missed it.

This was in the paper on Dec 23.

Man, daughter arrested in connection with suspected kidnapping

Donald Kevin Alldredge and Daphne Sue Alldredge

ST. GEORGE — Police arrested a St. George man and his daughter Wednesday
after a neighbor reported seeing the man attempt to kidnap an unrelated 11-year-old girl.
Donald Kevin Alldredge, 52, 35 W. 300 South, was arrested on charges of kidnapping a child, unlawful control of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for an officer, interfering with an arrest and a warrant.
His daughter, Daphne Sue Alldredge, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Just after 11 p.m. Wednesday, St. George Police received a call of a suspicious incident at 35 W. 300 South in St. George of a man driving off with an unrelated, screaming 11-year-old child, said SGPD Public Information Officer Capt. James Van Fleet.

Van Fleet said a neighbor of Donald Alldredge was being dropped off by a friend that night. The friend’s 11-year-old girl was left in the vehicle while the neighbor and friend went inside for a brief moment.

Donald Alldredge walked across the road, sat in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and started to back the car away from the residence, Van Fleet said.

The girl began to scream, and Donald Alldredge stopped and got out of the
vehicle, Van Fleet said.

The girl immediately locked the doors and started honking the horn, at which point the girl’s mother came out and observed Donald Alldredge standing by the car, then running toward his residence, Van Fleet said.

When officers arrived, Donald Alldredge was in a vehicle with his daughter, Daphne Alldredge, Van Fleet said.

The man exited the vehicle and started to walk toward his residence, but when officers commanded him to stop, he started to run, Van Fleet said. Officers caught and placed him in custody, but he refused to cooperate, Van Fleet said.

When officers spoke with Daphne Alldredge she showed signs of being on a controlled substance and failed a field sobriety test, Van Fleet said.

Donald Alldredge was booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility on $250,103 bail, and his daughter was booked on $8,008 bail.

Poor Grandma. Both of her "babies" in jail on Christmas. I guess Daphne wasn't there. I suppose someone had enough to bail her out. I looked up the list of registereds at the PCF "Inn" and Kerry is also there (been there 2 months already.) Just 2 cell blocks down from Kevin. Holy Moly! I guess Kevin got to spend Christmas with his firstborn, anyway

Crashed a TrunkorTreat Party!

This doesn't do it justice at all...

He handed out candy out of Indiana Jones' hat.
The skeleton glows with the black light.
Behind the baby mummy is a pile of bones that light up.
Don't forget about the baby mummy eating candy out of the trunk.
Make sure to see the cauldrons hanging from the hatch!
Yeah, we pretty much OWNED that TrunkorTreat!

The party was put on by our ward that kicked us out a month ago. We went anyway. Party started at 6:30. At 6:00 we were still trying to come up with an idea. People were so glad to see us. They'd be like, "We're so glad you came! We were wondering what this party was gonna be like without you guys!"

Day7: I took it down and reloaded it, ...

....because the last one was too poor of a quality to get the best effect.

Day4: One day it was rainy...

so of course the Mummy took appropriate cover.

Day3: On A Cold Day...

A Mummy's gotta do what a Mummy's gotta do.

Wear a coat!

Kinzie's coat is JUST RIGHT!

Day2: The Next Day

we had another visitor...

A 6'0" DaddyMummy joined the mix!

Day1: CJ The Bus Driver

asked Kinzie, as she was getting off the bus, who was visiting at our house...

LOL,

It's ON!

Day 1: Our "visitor".

A 5'4"  MommyMummy!

Booed Twice

Apparently, my 2-yr-old found our

"We've Been Booed"

sign and took it down out of our front window.
HAHA

We got carmel-white chocolate apples last night!!!!

That totally beat the snickerdoodles we got a week ago.

We need to figure out the right timing for this:

leave
the sign up long enough
for the "boo-ers" to see we are playing the "game"
so as to not offend anyone,
yet,
have it come down
at the right time
as to get
"Boo-ed"

AGAIN,

and AGAIN

and AGAIN!!!!

If you'll excuse me,
I have to go make some more cookies...
and some more boo signs....

PR on my BD

So, I had a birthday.
I decided that I would try to get a personal record in honor of me being so oldish.

My furthest I have ever run is 5K without stopping or walking.
3.1 miles.
I have done it once.

For my birthday gift to myself I wanted to show myself that I could do it again!
So I did!!!
But this time I ran 3.25 miles.

Running is not ordinary for me.
I don't "get it".
I don't "love" it.
It will never be an addiction.
Some days I can run a mile without even feeling it,
and some days I can't even run 100 yards.
?????

Well, yay for me to even run another 5K
in the same year I ran my first one!!

I don't think it will happen again very soon.
It seems that the muscles around my lungs give out before anything else does.

But, one day I am gonna invent a wrap around screen for treadmills,
so that I can pick my scenery each day.
I like to control my surroundings (not running in cold or hot or dodging cars or pushing a stroller),
so one day, I hope to run through a forest or on a beach while in my house.
I can only dream, I'm sure.

PVHS Drama Team

The girl who got voted Homecoming Queen a month ago was late for cheer practice this morning.
She didn't hear the announcement to be at the game at 6:00 tonight instead of 6:30.
They needed to hand out shirts for the cheer clinic girls at 6:30.
Since she was late for practice, she got demerits PLUS she had to sit out of the first half of the game.
Since she was late to the game, she got more demerits PLUS she had to sit out the second half of the game.

It was SENIOR night!! and she is a SENIOR!!!

Another girl, Kim, didn't even hear that they were to be there at 6:00, so she started cheering with the team.
Then the coach pulled her to the sideline and wouldn't let her cheer either.
None of the game.

Her mom has been best buds with the coach. Not any more!

(A total of three girls sat out the whole game.)

On a sidenote!!!

After the game tonight, the mom of the cheerleader that left in tears the other day, came and told me how awesome Kyson is.
The cheerleader told her mom what happened with the "therapy session".
The first thing she told her mom was that Kyson was the only one that came after her.
He hugged her and told her that he thought she was a great cheer captain.
That meant the world to her daughter.
The mom cried the whole time she was telling me.

Koby was about to get up and tell her,
but saw that Kyson was already and thought Kyson would get mad at him for copying him.
Haha probably right.

Kauri got a lot of oooohs and aaaahs tonight when Kyson put her above his head like he does with the other cheerleaders.
She was smiling so big.
Then she got to do her cheer clinic cheer for half-time.
She had a good night.

Double Jeopardy-Alive and Kicking on the PVHS Cheer Team

Here's the skinny:
There was a cheer clinic scheduled.
Each of the girls on the squad were given tickets to sell.
They had 10 days to sell 10 tickets.
Or get 4 demerits.

If you get 21 demerits between May and Feb, you are off the team.
Late to practice or game =2. Miss a game assignment=4.
Not wearing the right bow or hair-do=?          (We don't need to worry about this one.) etc.

Koby forgot about one game, slipped his mind. (They cheer for volleyball which has two games a week, JV football, and Varsity football.)
Kyson couldn't find his uniform one day, and made Koby late to the game.
Koby got 2, and Kyson got 4 that day.
Somehow they are adding up quickly.

We found out late on day 5 of the ticket sale that my boys were supposed to be selling tickets also.
They got their tickets on DAY 6!

Here's my beef.
1.  My boys and MW are in the same ward.
All 3 are competing for the same 15ish girls that they know of to sell 30 tickets to.
2.  Only girls are invited to come to this clinic, so my boys are at an automatic disadvantage since they don't keep tabs on who/where all the little girls are.
(ALL the cheer leaders agree that it seems a little creepyish for them to have to go find little girls to sell tickets to.) Not to mention the fact that MW has probably babysat all the girls in our ward, knows them well and, they would do it cause they like her.
3. My boys have 4 days to sell them, not 10.
4. My boys only know of the same girls, and don't want to go door-to-door, nor do they have time.
We called many on the phone. Koby rode his bike a mile away to try to sell them. Everyone was too busy.
5.  The team was promised that they would get demerits if they didn't get all 10 sold.
We decided that the demerits would be worth it to not have to worry about it anymore, since we weren't even getting close.
The task seemed impossible, and all the girls were complaining everyday that it was impossible.
Only 6 of the 22 cheerleaders got all 10 sold. (There were still 200 girls at the clinic.)2

When the cheer team showed up on judgement day, the demerits were handed out.
Then, somehow, the punishment changed.
6.  Now, it was going to be that the non-10 sellers were now going to be punished by having to cheer at the volleyball games on Tue. and Thurs.
And the sellers, had those days off.

How do you like that, volleyball players?
The cheer team cheers for you, because it is their punishment!

Well, certain boys on the cheer team have COLLEGE classes.
with REAL college professors.
Okay, both of them do.
The Senior has 16 college credits!!
And he has to go to 4 hours of high school on top of that.
And 2 hours of cheer "practice"1 every morning.
Not gonna mention that there is also 2 hours of swim team practice at 5 am every morning.
He has his college professors dictating his life pretty much.
He has tests scheduled that HAVE to be taken by a certain day.
He has to take this test on Tuesday night.
Oh, wait, he has to CHEER? on Tues. night in Hurricane (an hour of drive time) as his punishment.
7.  With only a day's notice!
Wait, his punishment was the 4 demerits that he had agreed to previously.

So, my boy being the smart boy that I raised him to be :), decided that he didn't want to get a 0 on the college test, so he had to miss the game.
I had called the coach and told him there was no way Kyson could make it, and it was ridiculous for him to expect him to miss the test to go, and that Kyson shouldn't be getting punished for missing the game for a COLLEGE test he already had scheduled.
Kyson didn't have time to call them, so I called every cheerleader that wasn't "punished" to see if someone would "take his place," since this would get him off the hook for getting demerits for missing the game. Four couldn't cover, and 2 wouldn't cover.
8.  I told the coach that potentially, Kyson could get 12 demerits for missing that one ridiculously unfair assignment if, by chance, he couldn't go to the game on Thurs.
9.  The coach didn't see it that way.
He said he'd talk to the cheer advisor and Kyson in the morning about it.
That didn't happen.
He just simply told Kyson that he got 4 more demerits for missing the game.
10.  Key word there being MORE. He had already been punished for the non-sell.

Here is where I throw in the definition of double jeopardy:

The defendant may not be punished twice for the same offense. In certain circumstances, however, a sentence may be increased. It has been held that sentences do not have the same "finality" as acquittals, and may therefore be reviewed by the courts. Sentence increases may not, however, be made once the defendant has already begun serving his term of imprisonment.

(The sentence in this case was added to after they got their demerits.
My boys both think that the girls who sold the 10, got to decide the harsher punishment of the added two volleyball games after the promised punishment of demerits had been given out!)
Kyson never even had a chance.
He already had this college test scheduled.

The 5th Amendment: just in case you had forgotten.

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

1 Practice is in quotes, because it isn't what you would think of as a practice. My boys explain it as a lot of talk, talk, and more talk, about the same issues over and over. Drama. Drama. and more Drama. Mind you, the cheer coach is MALE. Shouldn't be drama, right? According to both of my boys, he creates 80% of it.
And, he is constantly telling the team that they suck.

2.  The clinic had no adult supervision.
Several of the moms were mad, mad, mad to see their $25 had bought them Duck, Duck, Goose games. They taught them the dance for Friday's half time and for the breaks, they would play DDG games.
They didn't even spend more than 10 minutes teaching them cheers.

In case you are wondering, Kyson thinks he is up to 18 demerits now. Three more and he is OFF THE TEAM!!! All because he was expected to sell to little girls in less than half as much time as the rest of the girls who couldn't even do it.

Can you imagine him not on the team? He is the ONLY reason to watch them. He is in on EVERY good stunt performed. He is one of only 3 on the team that can tumble decently. The crowd LOVES him. The crowd responds better because of his constant "LOUDER" and "YELL IT" through the megaphone. The parade crowds only respond to our cheerleaders after he does his 10 back handspring-in-a-row passes down the road. Everyone on the team loves him to pieces!

In case you are wondering, if Kyson is kicked off, I will be pulling Koby off the team, too!
He can't tumble anyway, because of his injured elbow, and I will be in no mood to support the cheer team at all anymore.

PS. The coach couldn't make it to the game in Hurricane, cause his dog had surgery, and it couldn't be alone, so he called me to go act as the supervisor. You would have been appalled to see the girls as they showed up. They all looked like they were there as a punishment. Some of them even barely went through the motions for the cheers. They booed silently to each other when our team would score, because it meant that they had to stay longer. Four girls were late, 3 by 7 minutes and 1 was 40 minutes late. The cheer girl in charge told coach everyone was good.

PSS One of the girls on the team is there only cause my boys are there.
She would quit if they weren't.
She is one of them that wouldn't sub for him the other night.
Oh, the irony that if he gets kicked off, it would be partly just because she wanted to go to YW.
And then he won't be even be there for her anymore.

To add just a note to the previous post:

The other morning they had a "therapy" session.
The coach had each girl stand up and everybody take turns telling her what they thought of her, but no bashing.
The first couple of girls got up and nobody said much, then the team captain stood up and the girls let her have it in a non-bashing way.
She left in tears, and the coach spent the next 20 minutes bashing the team for bashing her.
They only got through 6 girls.

When Koby came home and told me about it, he was laughing.
My jaw hit the floor, and all I could say
was, "Oh, NO HE DIDN"T! Oh, no he DIDN'T!"
I'm not mad about it, but in a huge amount of dis-belief.
I have boys; they are a novelty, so everyone loves them,
and even if they didn't, my boys could care less.
So I didn't care that they had the meeting, but I can guess there aren't going to be so many good feelings between the girls on the team anymore.

Of course, Koby is laughing as he told me about it.
He couldn't believe it was happening at the time, either.
And everything that was said just made him laugh even more.
Especially when the coach keeps saying that they will not put up with the DRAMA.
Koby is the mildest-mannered, most 10-commandment-keeping person that I know, and he was the first person to tell me that the coach is the one CREATING all the DRAMA.
He had to hide his face behind his hands, cause he was laughing so hard.
Kyson told me later that he, himself, was also laughing in disbelief.

The moms that I have talked to about this are enraged.

They are scheduled to "finish" this therapy session tomorrow.

Me, I'm wondering when they are ever gonna start practicing more stunts and dances?

Grandma's life BORING?

I was delayed getting to the bank. As I finally got in my car to go, I turned on my police scanner which I never have in my car, especially with fresh batteries. I never even listen in on the scanner.
I just happened to turn it on and within 30 seconds I heard D's name. Not many have that name so I became very attentive. When I heard A's name as being on the phone with the cops, I knew that I knew who it was. A was worried about her 8-yr-old daughter seeing the cops with their guns and getting scared.
A., D., and their dad have lived with my grandma for almost their whole lives.

I listened on the police scanner as this whole story played out!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was so exciting that I called my mom and had her on the phone with me too.

They said the older woman had health issues and it would take her a while to get out of the house.
(Right here I am imagining my gma refusing to leave, cause she knows it is nothing.)
They even called for backup for a 4th car. As you can see, there were more that showed up.
I heard them reporting that they were sneaking around the back of the house to the shed.
Every time they would say something, I would have to shush my mom on the phone so I could hear them talking. lol
The radio went quiet for a few minutes before they reported that the house was "clear."

What an exciting 20 minutes I had!
Then I woke up to my sister in Texas giving me the heads up on a story that was in the newspaper today.

Story on the front page of the Spectrum today...

My cousin  with her hands up.

My grandma with her youngest of 12 kids, his youngest of 4 kids is in handcuffs.

Her older sister with a chair for grandma.
All three live with grandma.

This picutre was on the front page of the paper today:

In this one you can see A, D's dog, and A's 8-yr-old daughter.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this photo.

I also have my own version of a similar photo in my gallery.
I will try to post it in a minute.

D. called 911 and  reported shots fired in the shed in the backyard.
Cops had to clear out the house to make sure there was no one in there.
Turned out to be a false report and D was arrested.
My sister had been at the house less than 30 minutes before D called 911.
She said that D was acting VERY strangely. More so than usual.
Word is she is on pain meds for a back injury she got from a car crash in the gorge.
Don't know what drugs she was on at the time of this incident.

If you know my grandma, you can understand why she looks so calm in these photos.
She knows  nothing is wrong.
The police, however, don't know, so they had to act accordingly.

I AM SO THANKFUL THOSE COPS DID THEIR JOB RIGHT AND MADE SURE MY GRANDMA WAS SAFE. Even after D admitted to making a false report.

Here's the story in case thespecttrum has it blocked:

ST. GEORGE - Police responded with assault rifles drawn Monday evening to a St. George house after receiving what was later discovered to be a false report of multiple shootings in the house's backyard shed.
St. George Police Sgt. Johnny Heppler said officers rushed to the house on the 30 West block of 300 South with lights and sirens at about 5:30 p.m., secured a perimeter and entered the premises with weapons drawn.
"The only thing we knew was someone was saying someone was shot," he said. "We took tactical positions, so we had cover."
After determining no crime had occurred, police arrested 24-year-old Daphne Sue Alldredge on charges of 911 abuse, providing false information to a police officer and disorderly conduct. Alldredge was booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility on $1,486 bail.
"What she told the dispatchers didn't happen," Heppler said.
Alldredge's father, who declined to give his name, said his daughter suffered from mental issues and had a history with substance abuse. He said he hoped Monday's incident would result in his daughter getting the help she needs.
"I think it was a big cry for help," he said. "I think it was heaven sent."
It was still a scary event for the family inside the house.
Alldregdge's father was the first to encounter police as he walked out the front door to do some yard work.
"I came out to finish the shrubs and saw they were hiding out there with guns," he said. "I didn't know what to think."
Alldrege's sister, who also declined to be named, said she called 911 after seeing the officers as a way to ensure the situation wouldn't escalate.
"I said, 'You tell me what I need to do,'" she said, adding that she was fearful what effect seeing the guns would have on her 8-year-old daughter.
"I was freaking out for her," she said.
Police then questioned the family, searched the house and back yard, and left with Alldredge in custody.
Heppler said police take all reports of criminal activity seriously, adding that Monday's incident wasted resources that could be better utilized elsewhere.
"It definitely has an effect on the available officers at the time it is going on," he said of false reports. "We could be somewhere else taking care of an actual emergency."
Dan Larsen, who was working at his rental property across the street when the incident occurred, said he was glad to see officers make such brave moves.
"They were looking for action," he said. "They've got to do their job to keep us safe."

House for Sale

That's right. My house is now FOR SALE!
At least it is in my heart.
How many times are we expected to be ripped out of our ward family to be put in a new ward family?

In our ward it has been an average of less than 1 1/2 years for each split in the 18 years we have lived here.

We just got ripped away from the people we have been here with the longest. And sent packing the other direction.

We used to be in the ward we just got put back into, but not for 7 years, before one of the 9 changes in the last 16 years. Don't care to ever go to that ward again.

Since I work in the scouting, I don't work with any women. So, of my bestest buddies that I even have, they are all getting left behind in MY ward. The one I just got ripped out of. They took 2 cul de sacs and my main road for three blocks. That's it.

The man who is now the bishop is one I worked with in scouts and just adore. He was so good to work with. One that actually tried to do his job right. I would've liked him to be my Bishop.

And my boys' baseball coach. The one I hand pick to be their coach. He just got put into my ward, that I just got kicked out of. He would've been great to work with in scouts.

How long do you think it would take to sell this house?

They were obviously counting on my family's large number to help out their ward. It would just serve them right if we moved- and took all our kids with us.

You know that feeling you get when you realize you've lost your credit card? favorite ring? or wallet?
The feeling of doom and despair?
During my week of speculation, (and yes, I did get the boundary change EXACTLY on the mark down so-an-so's back fenceline) I had that doomsday feeling as soon as I realized my new ward was taking us in. A week ago. It was an Ah-ha moment of the wrong kind.

Hubby keeps telling me, just say the word, and we're gone. After the third time, I started to feel like he wants me to say the word.

The StPres bragged about how the computer can do all the calculating to get the numbers they are looking for in each ward. He bragged about "taking into consideration the feelings of those being affected." They got it wrong. They really just got it wrong. Go back and take back the people that you took out of their ward 2 years ago. Leave me with the people and friends I have been with for 18 years.

I have a neighbor that has For Sale signs that he's not using. He said we could have them. I am really going to consider my options right now.

And, right now, it feels like my  House is For Sale!

Homecoming Royalty

At our high school, you only get to be on one "royalty" so this was his chance. He was somewhere between 2nd and 10th place.

Hubby funnies

Setting the table for the homecoming dance for the 4 couples was challenging when we only have 8 spoons that match. Hoping that the spoons are all accounted for, (and clean) Hubby was searching for the ones that haven't been chewed up in the garbage disposal. I pulled out my grapefruit spoon and held it up to him and announced that this one had definitely found it's way into the disposal. He quickly corrected me by telling me that the spoon was really my grapefruit spoon not a disposal victim. I scoffed at him and acted disgusted that after 22 years together, he still can't tell when I am being sarcastically funny.

The couples at the table wanted to know what I was laughing about, so I told them that Hubby didn't know that I was kidding about the spoon going through the disposal. Then one of the girls at the table said, "Wait, isn't that a grapefruit spoon."

Lol, and welcome to my blog!
