CTR? What is that?

Sorry, this is just Ventsville lately.

I don't get it. I really don't. My sheltered upbringing was just too sheltered for some things of this world.

Last night a 15-yr-old girl hosted a boy/girl party where they were watching a movie with kids 15-18. Our kids know they have to ask us for permission to watch movies. One of our kids asked to watch "GrownUps". Hubby has seen parts of this movie and said it was filled with RAUNCH. He said "no" to the movie, especially in mixed company.

I am wondering: WHERE are the parents of this 15-yr-old girl? WHY would it be okay with them that she even watches it, let alone show it for a mixed-group party? WHY is she allowed to date her boyfriend before she is 16? and were her parents even around while this is all going on?

My son told us they would watch RIO instead. Yeah, right! This whole group of kids are GOOD KIDS as far as I know. They all knew that we had forbidden our son to watch it, they all helped in the lie by showing it anyway and by telling us they were watching something else.

I hate raunch. It has always offended me. I am just now learning that good kids tolerate it. They even WELCOME it. I don't get it. I just don't get it.

One time in high school, my basketball coach gave in to peer pressure to a raunchy girl on the team and rented an R rated movie for the TEAM (ages 14-18) to watch at the hotel at the State playoffs.
I sat by myself in my hotel room wondering what the heck. I didn't get it then, I still dont get it.

This party was primarily people on the swim team. I have already learned to be skeptical of anything "swim team". They sit on each others laps at the meets to stay warm in nothing but their swimsuits; they have parties so that they can play "kissing tag;" they have video parties and watch something raunchy. Most of them are "the good kids".

These good kids should be sticking up for what's going to help them get to the temple. (Wait a minute, they did that earlier in the day). And helping each other stay clean-minded while they are still so young.

Wow, I am really naive aren't I?
Now, I understand why my other son was not invited to the party.
He can't stand raunch either, which makes him "un-cool."  ...
 ..."un-cool" to the "good" kids!

Molasses Candy

Grandma Woodbury’s Molasses Candy

2 c sugar
2 c cream
4 T. butter
12 oz (1 1/2 c) sorghum or molasses

Cook, stirring constantly, until brittle, then add almonds and 2 rounded tsp. soda. Stir briskly only until the soda is mixed in and pour into buttered pan.

Notes: This is the candy I remember Grandma almost always had around. Not just at Christmas-time, too. I preferred it to be a little on the softer side -- you might be in danger or removing a filling, otherwise. =)

I have hand-written notes on my recipe card that say 1 cup molasses, cook until brittle or soft, and use 1 rounded tsp of soda. I'm not sure who made the adjustments, but I thought I'd be thorough and offer all options. =)

Uncle Clair says that sorghum makes a better candy. He said the molasses works but makes it more crispy than the sorghum.

I am feeling like I want to make some of this soon. I jsut need someone willing to stand there and stir for a half an hour.

Kauri's funnies Finally another one

Kinzie started reading her a book called Throwing Tantrums, and Kauri ran away to my bathroom and slammed the door shut behind her so she wouldn't have to listen to it. lol

UnBestBuylievable

Did any of you hear about the great Best Buy dabacle?

Here is just OUR version: We researched the laptops. We spent hours doing it. We finally settled on one and placed our Cyber Monday order.

The next day we were sent an email informing us that it was out of stock. They didn't know when they would get any, and if we wanted to cancel our order, here's how to do it. Okay, we would just wait and see. We didn't need the laptop anymore anyway.

The next week, the email said that it was still out of stock and it would ship as soon as it became available unless we cancelled our order. Fine.

The next week, the email said about the same thing.

The next week, a few days before Christmas, the email informed us that none of this back ordered item would be coming in and our order had been cancelled!

What the heck? No "here's an item of comparable value and comparable savings instead"?

I was mad. Really mad. How could a national chain of such reputation get away with this?!

I found on the website how to email the company, and I let them have it.

I told them: We missed out on 3+ weeks of good deals at other stores, because we were told that this was coming in eventually. Now it was 3 days before Christmas and we had no chance to replace this deal.

I told them I couldn't believe they didn't offer similar value in-store for us.

I told them I was infuriated at their lack of customer service.

I told them I would never be able to trust BestBuy dot com again.

We went to Best Buy locally to see if there was any sort of deals left or anything available in general. I absolutely expected to hear from them with them offering us a similar deal.

I heard on the news that there was quite a backlash for BB doing this to so many people. They mentioned that BB would be offering an instore credit of $30 to all its affected customers.

When I got my email with the credit in it, I couldn't believe what I read.
The laptop was on sale for $329. They gave us an instore credit of

$310!!!!

You read that right. I wondered if I read that right. I wondered all the way to the store till I had the gift card in my hand!

No need to spend non-tax deductable money on a tax deductable item.

We went to Costco and got a laptop there!  Insert smiley face here!

In case you missed it.

Man, daughter arrested in connection with suspected kidnapping

Donald Kevin Alldredge and Daphne Sue Alldredge

ST. GEORGE — Police arrested a St. George man and his daughter Wednesday
after a neighbor reported seeing the man attempt to kidnap an unrelated 11-year-old girl.
Donald Kevin Alldredge, 52, 35 W. 300 South, was arrested on charges of kidnapping a child, unlawful control of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for an officer, interfering with an arrest and a warrant.
His daughter, Daphne Sue Alldredge, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Just after 11 p.m. Wednesday, St. George Police received a call of a suspicious incident at 35 W. 300 South in St. George of a man driving off with an unrelated, screaming 11-year-old child, said SGPD Public Information Officer Capt. James Van Fleet.

Van Fleet said a neighbor of Donald Alldredge was being dropped off by a friend that night. The friend’s 11-year-old girl was left in the vehicle while the neighbor and friend went inside for a brief moment.

Donald Alldredge walked across the road, sat in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and started to back the car away from the residence, Van Fleet said.

The girl began to scream, and Donald Alldredge stopped and got out of the
vehicle, Van Fleet said.

The girl immediately locked the doors and started honking the horn, at which point the girl’s mother came out and observed Donald Alldredge standing by the car, then running toward his residence, Van Fleet said.

When officers arrived, Donald Alldredge was in a vehicle with his daughter, Daphne Alldredge, Van Fleet said.

The man exited the vehicle and started to walk toward his residence, but when officers commanded him to stop, he started to run, Van Fleet said. Officers caught and placed him in custody, but he refused to cooperate, Van Fleet said.

When officers spoke with Daphne Alldredge she showed signs of being on a controlled substance and failed a field sobriety test, Van Fleet said.

Donald Alldredge was booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility on $250,103 bail, and his daughter was booked on $8,008 bail.

Poor Grandma. Both of her "babies" in jail on Christmas. I guess Daphne wasn't there. I suppose someone had enough to bail her out. I looked up the list of registereds at the PCF "Inn" and Kerry is also there (been there 2 months already.) Just 2 cell blocks down from Kevin. Holy Moly! I guess Kevin got to spend Christmas with his firstborn, anyway
