Hacker

We have a hacker at our house and it's not Kyson.

It is Hubby. He caught the cough that is going around. He caught it so well it turned into Bronchitis!
The cough started off horrible, and it is still horrible.
It makes him throw up, it's so horrible.
Now he can barely talk. He thinks he might have ripped a vocal chord, cause it sounds like it, and because he spits up blood. yuck.

He's been out of work for 5 weeks, and he got called to come to work. Finally, he gets work, and he can't go, cause he has to go to the dr., and he feels yucky.

C'est la vie.

C'est La Vie

This time Hubby is the star of my blog.
Two years ago, he realized that he needs an Associates Degree to apply to certain jobs that he wanted to try for, which included substitute teacher (or so they told him).
He went to school for that semester (nothing else to do), and finished up the requirements (like 3 credits) he hadn't finished 22 years ago. However, the rules had changed and now he had to take 10 credits to finish up. So he finished those credits for the degree.
Then, work picked up for him and he didn't need the Degree any more, so he didn't apply for it.
Now, he is out of work again. With promises of work coming up (that didn't pan out),  he didn't register for classes this semester. So, he went to the college to square up his Degree.
The local college has changed the rules again. He no longer qualifies for the Degree. Now he is short 7 credits to get it. If he had applied for it when he earned it, he would have it.
I told him I think God is trying to tell him to stay in school and GET IT FINISHED, and to get the heck out of the concrete (beat the crap out of your body till you can no longer move if you are ever able to retire) business.

They took FIRST!

This picture was in the paper on Saturday, Jan 21. This is a picture of Kyson's relay team after they just found out they tied for 1st place in the 200 Medley relay in the Region Championships with a team that they thought was out of their reach.
They are a happy bunch of boys, now!

Pine View boys of the 200-yard medley relay celebrate after finishing during the first day of a Region 9 swim meet at Sand Hollow Aquatic Center on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012.ST. GEORGE - A pair of Region 9 swimming records were set Friday at Sand Hollow Aquatic Center as aquanauts from eight schools clashed and splashed, seeking region titles in both the boys and girls divisions.

Surprisingly, at the end of eight events, the Snow Canyon girls have a slender lead in the scoring over Desert Hills, with Cedar third and Canyon View fourth. In the boys race for the big trophy, Desert Hills has a commanding lead over Cedar with Canyon View, Pine View and Dixie all within striking distance of second-place.

Desert Hills sophomore Amelia Draney smashed her own Region 9 record in the 200-yard freestyle for the second time in two weeks. She scorched the distance in 1:55.85, almost a half-second quicker than she clocked a week ago in a meet against Judge.

"I just wanted to go fast enough to qualify for regionals," she said, "And that did it."

Draney was chased home in the 200 by Hurricane's Kaylee LeBaron, who dropped 6.5 seconds off her previous best. Sydney Zwick of Snow Canyon was third ahead of Cedar's Jamie Slack and Snow Canyon's Haley Barnett, all of whom went faster than their seed times.

"Amelia's closing in on the state 3A record of 1:53.92," said her coach Dani Caldwell, "And she'll get it sooner than later."

Desert Hills senior Courtney Freed set the other record in the 200 individual medley. She zipped through the four-stroke race in 2:14.24 to obliterate a record that had been on the books for 20 years.

Freed dropped an amazing 7.2 seconds off her previous best with a time that will have college coaches taking notice. Leah Heger of Snow Canyon was second, follow by Desert Hills' Tessa Trimble, Alisa Wallace of Cedar and Alex Meyer of Pine View.

The two 200-yard medley relays got the meet off to a rip-snorting start.

In the girls medley relay the Snow Canyon team of Zwick, McKenzie Barber, Heger and McKensy Madsen upset the Desert Hills team of Draney, Freed, Trimble and Madison Wawryzniak.

Only two-tenths of a second separated the two teams at the finish, Warriorette Madsen touching out Thunderette Wawryzniak by a finger nail in a school record time of 1:56.01. Cedar was third with Hurricane fourth.

The boys medley relay finish was even closer. In fact it was a tie between the Pine View team of Zack Paddock, Mitchell Hutchings, Kyson Sullivan and Kyle Buck and the Desert Hills foursome. The Thunder quartet was composed of John McPhie, Tim Senholtz, Spencer Bleazard and Corry Clark. Final time for both teams was 1:47.71, with Dixie a close-up third.

The Cedar City area boys dominated the 50 free. The Brown boys, Riley and Mitchell (no relation) finished one-two in the sprint, Riley of Canyon View winning in 22.75, with Mitchell of Cedar second, ahead of Eric Armijo of Canyon View and Corry Clark of Desert Hills.

Other noteworthy performances included Pine View's Shayne Beckstrand's 25.97 win in the girls 50 free over Zoe Smith of Desert Hills and the Snow Canyon pair of McKensy Madsen and Mica Mangum; Mitchell Hutchings of Pine View winning the 200 free in 1:50.15 over Richard Edwards of Canyon View and Desert Hills' Josh McPhie; and Snow Canyon's Connor Newman's 2:08.95 triumph over a charging Ashby Johnson of Dixie and John McPhie of Desert Hills.

Swim Region Day 2 newspaper article

I put this in here mostly for Kyson's personal records or personal history.

ST. GEORGE - The 500-yard freestyle at a high school swim meet is roughly equivalent to the seventh inning stretch in baseball - only longer.

It's a time to chat with friends or go to the vending machine, but not when Amerlia Draney or Mitchell Hutchings and Michael Pantelakis are swimming the 500.

Draney, who broke the Region 9 200 free record Friday at Sand Hollow Aquatic Center, was still in a record-breaking mood Saturday during the Region Championships. She smashed her own week-old mark by almost two seconds zipping the 500 yard in 5:12.83 and lapping her opposition. That time ranks her at the top of the 3A state standings. Hailey Pabst of 4A Mountain Crest is the only Utah high school girl swimmer to have gone faster. The 5A girls aren't even close.

Amelia was drying off after warming down when Mitchell Hutchings and Michael Pantelakis, representing Pine View and Dixie respectively, hit the water. Pantelakis led by a hair after the first 50, but Hutchings inched ahead, with a first 100 in 54.95. Michael posted a 55.39. After Hutchings began to widen and finished in an eyebrow-raising 4:56.62, over seven seconds faster than he had ever swum the distance before. Pantelakis also turned in a lifetime best effort of 5:02.77 and the pair is perched atop the state's 3A top 50 rankings going into next month's State Championships.

"I feel great, but tired," Mitchell said after the race. "I was getting him on the turns," he added, "Coach Dani has been working a lot with us on turns and it paid off."

Following Hutchings and Pantelakis home were Josh McPhie of Desert Hills and Hurricane's Payton Carter, who dropped an awesome 17.62 seconds off his previous best.

Draney, who rocketed her first 100 in 58.85 reflected, "Maybe I went out a little too fast, but I wanted to set a quick tempo early and try to hold it."

Chasing her home in the 500 was Hurricane's Kaylee LeBaron, who dropped an eye-popping 14.5 seconds off her previous best. Snow Canyon's Haley Barnett was third with another big time drop and Josie Hendrix of Cedar was fourth.

Other spectacular performances belonged to Leah Heger of Snow Canyon and Tim Senholtz of Desert Hills in the 100 butterfly; Desert Hills' Courtney Freed and Senholtz in the 100 breast stroke; Snow Canyon's girls 4x50 freestyle relay team and Desert Hills' boys 4x100 relay.

Heger was thrilled when she looked up at the scoreboard and saw her time in the 100 fly. It read 1:00.92, almost two seconds faster than she'd ever swum that event before. It broke Lacey Ence's 10-year-old school record, prompting Leah to say "I've been trying to break that record for three years."

Defending state champion Tessa Trimble of Desert Hills was second and Cedar's Alisa Wallace, who dropped about two seconds, was third.

Senholtz also set a Desert Hills school record with his 54.25 victory in the fly, shaving over a second off his seed time and beating the Canyon View trio of Richard Edwards, Aidan O'Connell and Skyler King. Both Tim's and Leah's times rank number one in the state for 3A swimmers.

Freed, who Friday demolished Cedar City's Anzie Porter's 20-year-old Region 9 record, came back Saturday with her game face on to upset McKenzie Barber in the 100 breast in the school record time of 1:08.83, nearly three seconds faster than her previous best. Barber, who was throwing up early in the day was nevertheless right at her seed time and finished ahead of Pine View's Alex Meyer, who shaved almost six seconds off her previous best.

Senholtz trumped Freed's effort with a 1:02.96 school record breaststroke victory of his own to vault into the top slot in the 3A top 50. He beat teammate Ben Powell with Snow Canyon's Parker Richey third ahead of the Dixie pair of Pantelakis and Ashby Johnson, all of whom dropped time.

Snow Canyon's girls 4x50 free relay set another school record, besting their Thunder rivals by 1.6 seconds. The foursome was composed of Barber, Heger, Sydney Zwick and McKensy Madsen. They now rank second in the state 3A standings behind Juan Diego.

The Thunder boys 4x100 free relay team of John McPhie, Makai Smith, Clark Corry and Senholtz grabbed the gold medal and propelled itself to a top state ranking with its 3:25.92 victory over Canyon View.

Other Region 9 champions crowned Saturday were Barber in the girls 100 fee; Canyon View's Riley Brown, who edged Cedar's Mitchell Brown in the boys 100 free; Cedar's Jamie Slack in the 100 back, Snow Canyon's Connor Newman in the 100 back; Canyon View's boys 4x50 relay team of Eric Armijo, Skyler King, Richard Edwards and Riley Brown; and the Desert Hills girls 4x100 free relay team of Zoe Smith, Emily Jesgarz, Tessa Trimble and Freed.

Desert Hills won both the boys and girls team trophies, with Snow Canyon second in the girls division and the Canyon View boys garnering second.

Kashton, my HERO! sort of

He made me Grandma Horsefeathers MOLASSES CANDY!!!!!

It took him an hour of stirring time,
but the agreement was that if he spent 15 minutes stirring,
then I would take off one week of his grounding.

Funny thing:
he did the EXACT same thing as another of my sons
that got grounded for a week,
then expected to go to a party that same night. haha
then,
he said the EXACT same thing as my other son,
and got grounded for another 3 days. haha
then,
at church I told him that if he told me one more time that he wasn't grounded,
then,
he would be grounded for one week for every time he told me so.
Then,
he passed me a note during church
where he told me so
at least 30 times. haha hahaha
hahaha
so, he got to stir my molasses candy for an hour with very little complaining.
LOL
It's chillin in the fridge,
but soon,
I will have
clean microwaves,
clean windows,
clean baseboards.....
because he has a party next weekend, also.
 :)   :)   :)   !

It was the first time we've made it since my mom's birthday a year and a half ago!
That time Uncle Steve stirred it, and he wasn't even in a time out!.lol

Kashton's Funnies! First Offense?

Kashton got grounded!
He was trying to justify why he shouldn't be grounded
and trying his best
(not his best, he just told me)
to get ungrounded so that he could go to the party that night.
He sat himself in a timeout for 20 minutes hoping that
I would accept that instead of the grounding.
"How about if I sit in a timeout and think about what I've done for 20 minutes?"
Then he sat in a timeout and verbally harassed me for 20 minutes.  LOL

I was feeling bad about him getting grounded for so long without a better warning.
I was thinking out loud
-hypothetically speaking-
wondering if I should let him off since it was his "First Offense."
Kashton,
surprised at my implication,
chimed in immediately,
"FIRST OFFENSE?! You mean there's gonna be another?"
LOL
LOL
