Was that smiling picture AFTER she knew you found it? I would ask what a permanent marker was doing in her reach, but that would be a dumb question since there is no "out of reach" for any of your kids!
Try writing over the marker with a dry erase marker, and then wipe it off. Let me know if it works.

If only I could find my dry erase markers. My kids got them down the other day, and they're missing. (The markers- not my kids.)
